MARTA ARTBOUND ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ARTISTS FOR FIVE POINTS STATION MOSAIC INSTALLATION

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Art in Transit Program Artbound announces a call for artists to create artwork that will be translated into eight large mosaic installations on the platforms at Five Points Station.

Applicants should work primarily in two-dimensional media and show artistic merit demonstrated in a strong portfolio of past work. The selected artists will create an original artwork and then work in tandem with a mosaic fabricator to bring their piece to its best translation in mosaic tile. The mosaic fabricator will then produce and install the finished artwork. Four artists are needed for the project.

ARTBOUND CALL FOR ARTISTS:

  • Strong portfolio of past work in two-dimensional media
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Over 18 years old
  • Click this link for application instructions , or visit @marta_artbound on Instagram and look in Bio
  • Applications due Dec. 6

Five Points Station is the largest and busiest rail station in the MARTA system, and the connecting point for all four rail lines, the North/South Lines (Red and Gold) and East/West Lines (Green and Blue). Each of the four selected artists will design a set of two mosaics located on either side of the North/South or East/West platforms. The mosaics will have the words “Five Points” in them and the lettering should be worked into the final design. The artwork should create a landmark within this busy rail station and give riders a sense of pride and excitement about MARTA and the City of Atlanta. The attached photo shows the general location of the mosaic (inside the blue lines).

This art installation is part of station upgrades at Five Points that include train platform, lighting, and aesthetic improvements and is part of a larger systemwide Station Rehabilitation Program to enhance safety and customer experience at all of MARTA’s 38 rail stations.
