East Lake Station Pedestrian Bridge Replacement

Current Status: Construction planned March to September 2024

As part of MARTA 2040 and its Capital Improvement Program, MARTA will begin deconstruction and replacement of the north pedestrian bridge at East Lake rail station. Once the work is complete, customers will see improved Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility with a new elevator and a cleaner, safer bridge with new flooring, lighting, and paint.

The work on the north pedestrian bridge is scheduled to begin in March 2024 and conclude in September of that year. The north parking lot at East Lake Station will be closed during construction. Customers must use the south pedestrian bridge and south parking lot.

MARTA customers must continue to enter and park on the south side of the station. A MARTA Mobility Shuttle will provide service between the north and south sides of the station. The Station Soccer pitch in the north parking lot will be closed during the bridge replacement.

Temporary Road Closure

West Howard Avenue will be closed between Melrose Avenue and Ridgecrest Road from 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, through 4:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2024. Traffic will be detoured onto adjacent local streets. Please follow the detour signage. An off-duty police officer will be present when workers are active.

Local bus route 19 will be detoured. Routes 2 and 34 will not be affected. The MARTA Mobility shuttle that is currently providing service between the north and south sides will be discontinued during the road closure. Rail service will be single-tracking, which may result in delays.

Visit itsmarta.com for more service details. Similar work is planned for the south bridge beginning in September 2024.
