Construction activity is concentrated along the northbound & southbound sections of
Hank Aaron Drive between the I-20 on ramp and Ormond Street. The work will include utility relocation, sidewalk reconstruction, and street milling and resurfacing to prepare for future stations to be installed.
Construction will impact the travel routes in several ways. Please see information below on what you can expect during construction working hours from 7:00 AM to 4:00
PM:
Vehicular Impacts:
- Periodic lane closures
- New traffic patterns
- Traffic delays
- Asphalt paving
- Relocation of Utilities
- Non-metered on street parking spots will be
closed in the following locations:
- Crumley Street between Hank Aaron Drive and Fraser Street
- Glenn Street between Hank Aaron Drive and Fraser Street
- Hank Aaron Drive between Fulton Street and McDonough Boulevard
- The intersection of Hank Aaron Drive and McDonough Boulevard north of the railroad tracks
- The intersection of Mitchell Street and Ted Turner Drive
- Vehicles out of compliance will be towed at the

Low impact construction may continue after scheduled hours when traffic is at its lowest, but these jobs will comply with local noise ordinances. The construction crew may also work during weekends to maintain the project schedule during periods of inclement weather. Please note all posted signage for detailed parking and
lane restriction instructions when traveling the corridor.
Bus Stop Impacts:
NOTICE:
BUS STOPS
THAT NEED TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION WILL HAVE BUS STOP SIGNS
COVERED WITH CANVAS BAGS AND A-FRAME SIGNAGE MAPPING THE NEAREST STOPS. FOR
RIDER SAFETY, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BOARD OR DEPART FROM BUSES AT STOPS THAT
ARE NEAR ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION.
All bus
stops directly on Hank Aaron Drive will be impacted by construction during this
process. Please use the rider alert above which is also posted at bus stops along the route to find your nearest stop. As construction progresses, the construction team will shift traffic to the outer lanes to continue work on the inner traffic lanes. Please note posted signage
as some bus stops will need to be relocated to accommodate traffic shifts:
- Southbound service at Georgia Ave, Bill Lucas Drive, Ormond Street, Vanira Avenue and Haygood Avenue
- Northbound Service at Haygood Avenue, Vanira Avenue, Ormond Street, Little Street, Bill Lucas Drive, Georgia Avenue and Fulton Street

Project Overview
Summerhill Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) – now known as MARTA Rapid Summerhill, will provide a 5-mile roundtrip route that connects Downtown Atlanta to the Capitol Gateway, Summerhill, Peoplestown, and the Atlanta BeltLine with fast, frequent premium transit service. Connections to
MARTA’s heavy rail system will be provided at Five Points, Georgia State, and Garnett stations.
The project is funded through a Federal TIGER Grant and the More MARTA program with the City of Atlanta. Planning and design work took place between Spring 2019 and Summer 2022. Following preliminary utility work that started in 2022, construction kicked off with an official groundbreaking in June 2023. Construction is
scheduled to be completed in 2025 with revenue service beginning in 2025. See project timeline below:
